Protect your personal files and folders from office snoops, curious kids, dorm roommates and cyber criminals

Protect your personal files and folders from curious people

In version 4.0, MagneticSoft has introduced an additional layer of protection against network snoops. Now users can be sure no one can ever see their hidden files if they are stored in shared folders, for example, My Documents. The other major change is an automatic check for updates. When this option is enabled, the program will go online to check for a new update automatically. Checks can be set to run every day, week or month. If an update is available, the user clicks the Download button and downloads the installer. Additionally, one can check for an update manually at any time simply by clicking the Check Now link in the Preferences window.

Folder Castle lets the user conceal personal folders or files so that other people who can log on the same computer do not have any idea that something is hidden away. In case of confidential or particularly sensitive documents, the program allows the user to go one step further and drag and drop files into a secure locker, which works as a mountable virtual drive with on-the-fly 256-bit AES encryption. This locker can be created anywhere on the local hard drive, or a USB stick if one wants to take the files with him to the office or any other place he is going to. Once the files are in the locker, they cannot be seen or accessed unless the user provides a valid password.

Who can benefit from Folder Castle?

Folder Castle can benefit almost anyone who has to share the computer with other people and wants to keep some files private. The following is a short overview of its benefits for different people.

• Students. Most students live with one or two roommates in an apartment or dorm. That’s not to mention about many other people who visit them, their roommates or simply hang around. Besides, most campuses have a local network, so that students can browse the Web, chat, play and share local resources with each other. Roommates and campus networks often represent a security threat - some geek may get access to the computer of the victim to snoop around for personal information. Therefore, it’s a good idea to use Folder Castle to protect private documents, photos and video from prying eyes.

• Office workers. Protection of confidential documents is the important first step in keeping the computer safe at work. The biggest risk comes from co-workers who share the same computer and the IT people charged with maintaining a corporate computer system. Folder Castle installed on the office machine will prevent co-workers, IT people or anyone else with a physical access to the computer or the administrative password from browsing through the sensitive files, documents, or projects. This data could be stolen or used against the owner if it remains unprotected on a shared corporate computer.

• Home users. Home computers often become a target of hacker attacks. Anything of value is for grabs - financial information, bank account details, personal letters and even more intimate data like private photos and video. Then there are kids and spouses who may accidentally stumble on some personal files they are not supposed to see. Folder Castle is the best way to ensure that sensitive and confidential information will not fall into the wrong hands. In just a few clicks, one can hide and encrypt personal data so that no one finds it. It’ll safeguard the user from the pain of discovery and restore his peace of mind.

Available now, Folder Castle costs $39.95 (USD). A free trial is available.
